Explore the different RBS training methods and find out which one is best for you.

If you’re an alcohol server, or manage or train alcohol servers in the state of California, you’ve probably heard by now about Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) mandatory training and certification.

Effective July 1st, 2022 and in accordance with Assembly Bill 1221, which created the Responsible Beverage Service Training Act, all on-premises alcohol servers and managers/trainers of alcohol servers must complete RBS training and pass a certification exam to legally serve alcohol in the state.

If you’ve taken the first step and confirmed you or your staff must complete the training, you might now be wondering where to complete the training.

There are two ways to obtain RBS training: in-class and online.

In-class training occurs in-person or virtually and offers the ability to learn directly from an instructor. These sessions can range in length from one to several days and may require the purchase of additional training material. While ideal for those who prefer to learn from an instructor, finding a convenient location and making the time investment could be tricky if you have a demanding schedule or busy lifestyle.

Online training features modules that are fully web-based, automated and self-directed. These allow you to learn at your own pace and at a time that is most convenient for you. Userve’s RBS Course is 100% online, only takes only a couple of clicks to enroll, and as little as a few hours to complete. Students get instant access to interactive modules and supporting materials to keep once the training is complete – at no additional cost. The best part is, the training can be done from anywhere, including your mobile device.

Regardless of the method you opt for, be sure to choose an accredited training course from an RBS training provider you can trust.
