The Responsible Beverage Service Training Act comes into effect in California on July 1, 2022. This act, legislated with the passing of Assembly Bill 1221, requires all servers of alcohol and managers of servers to obtain accredited Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training and pass a certification exam to legally serve alcoholic beverages in the state. This mandate applies to alcohol servers and managers at any ABC on-premises licensed establishment such as a restaurant, bar or nightclub.
Accredited training refers to a training program that has been certified by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). The curriculum of this training has been verified and approved by the ABC to meet the requirements of the RBS Training Act.
Once you complete and pass the accredited training, you will be able to take the certification exam. It is important when looking for a training provider that you look for one with an ABC-accredited program.
The first step in the certification process is to register as a server on the ABC RBS portal. Once you’ve registered as a server, you’ll be able to view a list of accredited training providers and select the one that you prefer.
When choosing from the list of approved providers, be sure to consider the method of training, e.g. if it is online or in-classroom, and what materials are included to ensure you get the best learning experience.
Userve’s RBS Course is accredited by the ABC, is offered 100% online and registration takes seconds. Complete your training now, quickly, conveniently and affordably.
