What’s Included in RBS Training?

When looking for a RBS course, it's important to consider what's included to ensure you're getting the most out of your training. 

To serve alcohol in the state of California from July 1st, 2022 onward, all alcohol servers and managers are required to obtain Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification. The first step in getting your certification is to complete RBS training.

When looking for a program, it’s important to consider the training provider, the course contents and whether or not it includes other training material to aid you after completion. Here we review what’s included in Userve’s RBS Training.

State-Approved Program

The training curriculum meets California state requirements and has been approved by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).

Interactive Modules

Our interactive online modules make completing your RBS training easy and enjoyable, helping to make sure what you learn sticks. Our RBS training covers four different modules:

1. Social Impacts of Alcohol: Discusses the impacts of alcohol consumption on the community and helps you to understand your role as a bartender or alcohol server
2. Impacts of Alcohol on the Body: Here you’ll learn about factors affecting intoxication, how to measure blood alcohol concentration (BAC), and useful tips for safe service and avoiding serving or over-serving customers who are already intoxicated
3. Laws and Regulations Related to Alcohol Service: Reviews the various state laws and regulations, and the roles of local law enforcement and the liquor authority. We also cover different types of liabilities and your responsibilities as an alcohol server
4. Prevention of Service to Minors and Intoxicated Customers: Discusses how to identify acceptable ID, your right to stop service and how to manage difficult situations that may arise

Practice Quizzes

To better prepare you for the ABC certification exam, our RBS training materials include practice quizzes that allow you to test your knowledge as you go and get comfortable with the testing process.

Supporting Resources

Userve’s RBS program sets you up for success after you’re finished learning. The course includes a variety of resources, including a Glossary of Terms, BAC Charts for males and females, and a Student Handbook. Each of these training materials can be downloaded for your continued use after you’ve finished the course.
